The Main Event was won by James Pillon, taking home C$333,240 but there were a whole host of other winners at the festival, including Progressive Knockout and Mystery Bounty events. If I lost this one, I don’t know what I would’ve done.”

After nearly 18 hours of play a winner has emerged from a field of 178 in Event #13: $3,300 High Roller here at the 2024 World Series of Poker Playground. When the dust had settled Demosthenes Kiriopoulos was the last player standing, last defeating Samuel Roussy-Majeau in heads-up play to take home his first circuit ring and the $140,000 winner’s payout. Kiriopoulos started the day with a middling stack. He picked up momentum part way through the day to become one of the bigger stacks in the field. From there he managed to make the the money and only heat up as he demolished his way through the final tables to win the event.

The newly crowned victor was Sheila Vanderwoude who bested Brigitte Korak heads-up to take home her first World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) ring and the top prize of $6,555. Vanderwoude entered the final table as a middling stack. Her path to victory was a rollercoaster as she moved from chip leader to at-risk small stack throughout the final table. She was able to consistently battle back and hit the right cards to close out the victory over her fellow ladies.

Di Maria claimed the top prize of $50,000 and secured his first WSOPC ring. “I’m feeling spectacular, like a dream come true… I came in second at Verona in their circuit. I kind of blew it there, so it’s fitting I won it here,” Di Maria remarked after his victory.

In the end Bharat Shetty was the final player remaining, last defeating David Burnard in heads-up to take home his first WSOPC ring and the top prize of $20,000. Shetty also claimed twelve bounties en route to victory, adding $8,500 to his winnings. Runner-up Burnard was the lucky player who claimed the largest mystery bounty prize of $50,000.

“I knew at that moment I was winning,” an elated Maxime Jutras shared with PokerNews referencing a text exchange he had with his brother going into the final table of the 2024 World Series of Poker Circuit $300 Colossus. And, after nearly 11 hours of play, Jutras did just that as he reigned supreme at Playground, last defeating Amireza-Jaberi in heads-up play to take home the top prize of 85,000 CAD and his first piece of WSOP hardware.

The German-turned-Californian can now boast a Circuit ring after taking down Event #5: $600 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed for $15,907. Kniep, a Google software engineer and former SpaceX engineer who best known for his deep run in the 2021 WSOP Main Event and fourth-place finish in the 2023 Millionaire Maker for $501,182, topped a field of 120 runners and defeated heads-up opponent Pedro Green.

Susan Faber also made headlines during the series, having won two rings. She first defeated Maurice Hawkins heads-up to win Event #5: $600 No-Limit Hold’em for $33,493. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner would then capture her second ring in Event #16: $600 No-Limit Hold’em Super Turbo, beating out 174 entrants for another $21,884.

But he was denied during heads-up play by Susan Faber in the $600 No-Limit Hold’em event. Event #5 attracted 305 entrants, creating a prize pool of $157,075 at the Cherokee, North Carolina casino. In the end, it came down to a bracelet winner against a longtime pro with a history of unpaid debts accusations. And it was the former who came out on top to secure the ring and the $33,493 first place prize, while the runner-up took home $22,329.

Lapka came into the final day fifth in chips but worked his way back into the mix to clinch his first live piece of WSOP hardware after two online bracelets and two online WSOPC rings.
